The Mark 8/9 gearbox is a transaxle unit, designed for rear-engined, rear wheel drive cars. The unit is produced with four or five forward gears, reverse, and a choice of three differentials. The gear selection mechanism is an H pattern, mechanically operated direct link and has a reverse engagement detent lock out.
